      Matomo Analytics Tracking

      For the setup of Matomo Analytics Tracking, we've configured Matomo Analytics Add-On Container for your GTM Accounts.

      You'll find the relevant GTM container in the link below

      As Matomo Analytics can track visitors without any cookies, you can use the above container whether you use a cookie management platform like Cookiebot or not.

      How to use containers

      1. Visit https://matomo.org/matomo-cloud/
      2. Click on 'Try It For Free' to start using Matomo with 21 day free trial.
      3. Set up a new account (doesn't matter if the website address entered there starts with https or www)
      4. The platform will create a unique URL for your Matomo Analytics account. Save the login details and this URL to access the platform later again.
      5. Click on the "cog" icon in the top right hand corner.
      6. Navigate to Privacy > Anonymize Data > scroll down and check "Force tracking without cookies" > and click on Save.

      7. Navigate to Websites > Manage > Edit > scroll down and ensure "Currency" and "Timezone" are set correctly.
      8. Under Websites > Tracking Code > expand the "Advanced options" > and check "Disable Cookies" > and copy the whole "Matomo Tracking Script".



      9. In GTM, navigate to the relevant account > admin > import container.
      10. Choose the Matomo Analytics add-on container.
      11. Choose Merge under import options.
      12. Fields to update
        1. Open the "Matomo Cookieless Tracking - Base Configuration" tag
        2. And replace the script in the "HTML" part of this tag with the "Matomo Tracking Script" copied from the Matomo Account
        3. Save
      13. Publish the container.
